Hi, this is Colin. I’ve been a professional commercial welder for most of my life, though these days I’m more into the artistic than the commercial side of things, and I enjoy spending time in my workshop, experimenting with different materials and techniques. I find that my commercial experience, which is mostly in marine engineering, has given my artistic work a maritime, industrial feel. I love big, bold shapes and a vintage, recycled, junk-to-art look which preserves our country’s design heritage.
I have always had a passion for Datsun Z racing, and as well as maritime and industrial influences, motor design has had a huge impact on my work. Using recycled car parts is a real passion of mine, and I am always experimenting with ways of using up worn out parts and giving them new life.
Another major influence on my artistic work is my love of travel. For my whole life I’ve seen as much of the world as I can, and now I am trying to incorporate a variety of international styles into my work.
I have welded most of my life, I now enjoy it more for that art than for the commercial side of things, I had a passion for datsun Z racing and world travel to get inspiration for my welded art work.
